Two US citizens wounded in shooting at Afghan-Nato meeting

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan: Two American citizens were wounded in a shooting at a high-level Afghan security meeting attended by top US commander General Scott Miller, Nato said Thursday, with witnesses reporting ongoing gunfire.

Miller was not injured in the attack on the governor’s office in the southern province of Kandahar, Nato’s Resolute Support mission spokesman Colonel Knut Peters said in a statement.

Provincial police chief General Abdul Raziq was also at the meeting, which comes two days before Afghanistan’s parliamentary elections.

Afghan media reported that Raziq and a journalist had been killed in the attack, but that information could not be immediately confirmed.

A hospital official told AFP that several senior officials had been brought to the medical facility, but they would not provide further details.
