Myanmar seizes 12 tonnes of raw jade stones in northernmost state

YANGON: Myanmar authorities have seized 12 tonnes of raw jade stones illegally transported to Myitkyina, Myanmar’s Kachin state, said a Home Ministry release late Saturday.

The seizure was made by a police team when it intercepted and searched a 12-wheel truck bound for Myitkyina from Namti at a checkpoint on Friday.

According to Xinhua news agency, the illegal raw jade stones were found packed in 300 bags and concealed in a secret compartment of the vehicle. — Bernama
